Aherusia - Whispers of Moon: A Review of the Greek Folk Metal EP
Aherusia is a Greek folk metal band that was formed in 1997. They have released three full-length albums and one EP, titled Whispers of Moon. The EP was released in 2014 and contains four tracks that showcase the band's unique blend of traditional Greek music and heavy metal.
The first track, Birth of Immortals, is an instrumental intro that sets the mood for the EP. It features acoustic guitars, keyboards, and a flute that create a mystical atmosphere. The second track, Archangels, is a fast-paced song that combines aggressive riffs, blast beats, and harsh vocals with melodic passages, clean vocals, and folk instruments. The lyrics are inspired by Greek mythology and deal with the war between the Olympian gods and the Titans.
The third track, Whispers of Moon, is the longest and most epic song on the EP. It starts with a slow and haunting intro that builds up to a powerful chorus. The song alternates between heavy and soft sections, with different vocal styles and instruments. The lyrics are based on a poem by the Greek poet Kostas Karyotakis and express his feelings of loneliness and despair. The fourth and final track, The Dance of Nightingale, is a cover of a traditional Greek song that was popularized by the singer Haris Alexiou. The band adds their own metal twist to the song, while preserving its folk essence.
Whispers of Moon is a great example of how Aherusia combines their Greek heritage with their metal influences. The EP showcases their musical diversity and creativity, as well as their lyrical depth and inspiration. Aherusia was formed in 1997 by Voreas Faethon, who is the main vocalist and guitarist of the band. He was joined by Evrynomos on guitars, Foibos Apollyon on keyboards, Pontos Oceanos on pipes and bagpipes, Lyda Faesforos on female vocals, Polypimon Damnameneus on drums, and Chaeronios on percussion. The band released their first demo, The Elder Blood, in 1999, which featured four songs that blended black metal with Greek folk elements.
The band went on a hiatus in 2000 and returned in 2004 with a new lineup. Voreas Faethon remained as the leader of the band, while Arcania joined as the second guitarist. The band also recruited Orion Arctorios on vocals and bass, Ichoria on keyboards, Ierax on Cretan lyra, and Aidhor on drums. The band released their debut album, And The Tides Shall Reveal The Traces, in 2008, which received positive reviews from critics and fans. The album featured eight songs that explored themes such as philosophy, mythology, humanity, folklore, and literature.
The band continued to evolve their sound and style with their second album, As I Cross The Seas Of My Soul, which was released in 2013. The album featured nine songs that were more progressive and experimental than their previous work. The band also added more folk instruments such as bagpipes, wind instruments, and alto vocals. The album was inspired by the works of Greek poets such as Kostis Palamas and Nikos Kazantzakis. aa16f39245
