A Daughter of Coldharbour is a female individual who has been granted vampirism through a ritual with the creator of vampires, Molag Bal.[1][2] The term is partially derived from the name of Molag Bal's plane of Oblivion,[3] Coldharbour. Being pure-blooded, all Daughters of Coldharbour are also powerful Vampire Lords.[4]

A Daughter of Coldharbour is a female individual who has been granted vampirism through a ritual with the creator and patron deity of vampires, Molag Bal.[1][2] The term comes from Coldharbour, the plane of Oblivion that Molag Bal lords over.[3] Being pure-blooded, all Daughters of Coldharbour are also powerful Vampire Lords[4].

After the Last Calusa is released upon Key West, the demon Fedra Fedregotti approaches hunter Dean Winchester with the idea of a using a gestalt ritual to defeat the spirit. Fedra's idea is to use the ritual to combine all of the spirits in Key West into Dean to give him the power to destroy the Last Calusa which is otherwise invulnerable and neither can defeat the Last Calusa alone. Though both are reluctant to work with each other, Dean ultimately agrees to the deal while having Bobby Singer stand by with the Colt in case Fedra tries something.

Possessing a young woman named Kat, Fedra performs the ritual upon Dean who uses the spiritual energy from the ghosts within him to attack the Last Calusa, gaining different effects depending on the emotion he uses behind his attacks. However, even empowered by the ritual the Last Calusa proves to be too strong for Dean to destroy. Eventually, Sam salts and burns some uncovered Calusa bones, destroying some of the spirits making up the Last Calusa and weakening it. While the Last Calusa is distracted repairing the damage to itself and thus vulnerable, Dean channels all of the spiritual energy given to him by the ritual into one blast and destroys the Last Calusa. However, Fedra is able to use the ritual to take control of Dean afterwards until she's exorcised by Sam.

The spell, being demonic magic, requires a reverse pentagram which the demon must sit within. The demon must slice open their palm and streak their blood on the cheeks of the person the spell is being used upon. The person the spell is being used upon must focus on something such as a happy memory to the exclusion of all else to ground them when the ghosts enter their body. Once the person is ready, the demon then chants the spell in an unknown language. After the spell begins, the ghosts will enter the targeted person who must use the thing they chose to ground them to gain control over themselves and all of the dead within them. Once they have control, they will have access to all of the spiritual energy belonging to the ghosts within them and depending on which emotion or instinct they choose to use, can direct that energy to different effects. The person the spell is used upon is also more vulnerable to emotional manipulation, especially if the spirits within them are highly affected by the emotion that is being manipulated within them.

During the ritual, the demon will be connected to the person the spell is cast upon through a line of spiritual energy no thicker than a fishing line. Prolonged use of the spell will burn out the demon's vessel, but once the spell is stopped, as long as its before the vessel dies, the burnout will disappear with no ill effects upon the vessel.

The process is somewhat similar to the creation of the first vampire, Lamae Beolfag. Serana gained her vampirism through a ritual in which members of her family pledged themselves to Molag Bal. Females like Serana and her mother, Valerica, who survive the horrific ordeal are dubbed "Daughters of Coldharbour".

Following Gelebor's instructions, Serana and the Dragonborn proceed through Darkfall Passage and the Forgotten Vale until they reach the Inner Sanctum and complete the rituals that all initiates took to join the Chantry. Proceeding inside, they find several Falmer and Chaurus frozen solid, but taking the items from some of them cause them to awaken and attack. Clearing them out, Serana and the Dragonborn reach Auriel's Chapel, where Vyrthur is waiting for them. Revealing that he had been waiting for Serana this whole time, he awakens the various frozen Falmer and Chaurus to attack Serana and the Dragonborn, even bringing down the chapel's ceiling and summoning an Ancient Frost Atronach to stop them. When all that fails, he erupts with a spell that causes the entire chapel to collapse, stunning the Dragonborn. As (s)he recovers, Serana tells him/her to get up as they can't let Vyrthur escape. Confronting him on the balcony behind the final wayshrine, Vyrthur reveals to Serana that he had become afflicted with vampirism, making him believe that Auriel abandoned him the moment he turned into a undead creature. Furious at being alienated by Auriel, Vyrthur sought revenge by being the original creator of the Tyranny of the Sun prophecy, but while he had Auriel's Bow, he still needed a Daughter of Coldharbor to collect the vampire blood to bring the prophecy to fruition, and Serana would be that candidate.

Revealing to Isran that they have Auriel's Bow in their possession, Isran decides the time is right to assault Castle Volkihar and eliminate Lord Harkon and the Volkihar Clan once and for all. Taking Sorine, Gunmar, Florentius, Durak, Celaan, and an armored troll with them, alongside Serana and the Dragonborn, the Dawnguard lay siege to Castle Volkihar, slaughtering all of the Volkihar Clan until Serana and the Dragonborn confront her father, Lord Harkon. After a difficult fight with Harkon, he melts and dissolves into a pile of red ashes, ending his life once and for all. Isran arrives to see Harkon is dead, and thanks Serana for all her help in stopping the prophecy from coming to fruition, gaining a newfound respect for her and seeing that not all vampires are as dangerous as he thought. From that point on, Serana remains with the Dawnguard at their base in Fort Dawnguard, and can be convinced by the Dragonborn to visit Falion in Morthal to be given the ritual to purge her of her vampirism, allowing her to finally be human again, but still prove herself a powerful magic user without her vampire powers and abilities.

He discovered an ancient prophecy called the Tyranny of the Sun which, if enacted, would allow vampires to roam the world freely without the fear of weakness from the sun, but to do so, he required two Elder Scrolls, Auriels Bow, and Serana for a ritual sacrifice.

Upon entering Coldharbour, you will need to fight your way to the ritual sight. With the help of the companions, this should be an easy task. You will also be given the chance to help your former enemy, should you choose to. Once you reach the ritual sight, you will be given a choice. There is no right answer, so pick the NPC you wish to begin the ritual. Once complete, you will become charged with divine power. With this power you will be able to one shot most enemies as you walk through the area.

This is where the name Daughters of Coldharbour stems from. These are women who have survived a ritual with Molag Bal, becoming pure-blooded vampires. Few survive, but you can meet one of these rare beings in Skyrim, Serana.
