Another example of a handheld i-device charting and navigation program, iNavX brings free, official and up-to-date NOAA RNC raster marine charts of U.S. waters to your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Included detailed chart coverage: West Coast, Gulf Coast, East Coast, Great Lakes, Alaska, Hawaii, and US Virgin Islands.

With iNavX you can use the built-in location services (i.e. GPS, cell tower, WiFi) to plot your position in real-time on the multi-touch scrolling and zooming and rotating (including course up) marine chart.

iNavX Marine Navigation is an incredibly powerful app for iPad that includes a vast collection of NOAA RNC raster USA marine charts to help you effectively navigate the waters of the United States while enjoying the ease and convenience of your iOS device.

What we have here is a fantastic addition to the Navigation category of the App Store that provides a comprehensive collection of NOAA RNC raster USA marine charts with dedicated coverage for the West Coast, Gulf Coast, East Coast, Great Lakes, Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

iNavX Marine Navigation can also be used as a repeater for marine navigation software with NMEA data transfers over TCP/IP where required, so it is quite safe to say that this app boasts a great degree of versatility.

Beyond navigation, details on marinas, fuel docks and other facilities are also available. Weather data overlays and additional features like engine data and AIS collision avoidance information can also be viewed, but the app can get technical in a hurry and may take longer to learn.

All sailors should be versed in traditional navigation, especially when going offshore, but modern boaters should also understand electronic navigation for maximum safety and sailing satisfaction. Sophisticated navigation systems like iNavX help them plan and prepare for their voyages, as well as stay on track while underway.

Fully compatible with iOS and Android devices, iNavX transforms popular smartphones and tablets into full-functioning, handheld chartplotters. Location, heading, speed, course over ground (COG), waypoints, routes and other navigation functions are attractively displayed on the device. With multiple in-app chart formats, boaters gain a better understanding of their cruising area.

Other advanced features of iNavX include high-resolution weather overlays and AIS data that are easily activated within the app. Planning trips and setting routes can be done remotely, alleviating the need for boaters to access their vessel and enter coordinates into sometimes cumbersome onboard plotters. Multiple devices can be accessed, allowing the user to pull up their iNavX navigation functions and full suite of charts on their smartphones, as well as tablets.

The release of iNavX Android further solidifies iNavX as the leading marine navigation application. Continuing to differentiate itself as the only application that supports multiple chart providers, iNavX is the perfect marine navigation chart-plotter for the palm of your hand and can be used as a primary chart-plotter, a toolkit or as a redundancy system. The new iNavX for Android includes a simplified design to enhance navigational controls with one-touch waypoint and route creation, and a racing-inspired instrument display. Currently, iNavX Android supports charts from Navionics, NV Charts, Blue Latitude, Delius Klasing, Explorer Chart-books, Fugawi, Solteknik and Waterway Guide information overlays.

Theyr Weather, an optional service, provides a slick graphical overlay for all weather information that any mariner would want. With its coming support of NMEA data over TCP/IP, iNavX will integrate with external GPS, AIS receivers and transponders, as well as networked instruments including depth, speed, wind, engine data and battery voltage meters. GRIB weather forecasts and weather overlays can easily be downloaded and displayed on the app.

I have recently been testing the functionality of iNavX with the assistance of Fugawi in granting access to the app and numerous charts. Plus, several readers wrote to me about positive experiences with Navionics marine navigation apps. Lets juxtapose iNavX and Navionics.

You can get iNavX for $27.99 CAD, and occasionally for less when the app goes on sale. The download comes with standard NOAA charts, but you need to purchase detailed navigation charts that can be rather expensive depending on where you are boating.

Navionics is primarily a chart maker, and they have great charts, but their charts and free government charts are the only ones available to users of their app. iNavX does not produce charts, it is an app developer focused on providing a functional platform for recreational boaters and hardened mariners. That includes access to multiple chart developers so boaters can choose the best charts for their area. With iNavX you can download charts from:

By Andy AdamsThe world of marine electronics is just on fire in terms of development. You can almost name any function that you could dream up and somebody is offering it. We are just heading into the traditional boat show season and this year there is a big difference from past years. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, most boating enthusiasts have not had any in-person boat show exposure to the new products since 2019 or 2020. That means that there are almost three years of new products to catch up on. It's going to be an exciting year in 2023!

iNavX, the leading marine navigation app now provides access to CHS Charts from the Canadian Hydrographic Service. These comprehensive digital charts provide exceptional detail when navigating in Canadian waters.

iNavX is the only marine navigation app to offer a full suite of worldwide charts from multiple chart providers that include NOAA raster charts, Navionics vector charts, Blue Latitude, Explorer Bahamas, Waterway Guide, Delius Klasing, and now better coverage than ever with the inclusion of CHS Charts.

This one of the most popular and well known marine navigation apps for phone or tablet in the world. This is what I supply loaded in my navigation tablets! The standout feature would the ability to switch between navigation charts and SonarChart (high amount of depth contours), as well as the Relief Shading. Great if you need lots of bottom detail for fishing. Excellent value, and constant updates. Does automatic routing, but you need to have an active subscription for that. You can connect a wireless AIS receiver to it, and it will work offline! On the whole, an excellent choice for your mobile device. You can view their charts online for free to see if they suit your needs here. Available for Android devices here, and for Apple iOS here. Quick video overview here!

Beginning December 1, 2018, the new iNavX backend system will replace the Fugawi infrastructure to improve service delivery. In a recent announcement to their customers, Fugawi stated that as of November 30, it will no longer sell downloadable charts, renewals or content for use with navigation software and apps. The iNavX and Fugawi teams have been working in collaboration to ensure continuity of delivery and performance, with no interruption of service for all users. 041b061a72
