Plot summary
Tanu Weds Manu Returns picks up four years after Tanu (Kangana Ranaut) and Manu (R. Madhavan) got married in London. Their marriage is on the rocks, as they have grown apart and bored of each other. Tanu gets Manu admitted to a mental asylum, and then flies back to her hometown Kanpur, India. There, she reconnects with her old friends and suitors, including Raja Awasthi (Jimmy Sheirgill), who is still obsessed with her.
Meanwhile, Manu escapes from the asylum with the help of his friend Pappi (Deepak Dobriyal), and returns to India as well. He goes to Delhi, where he meets Kusum (also Kangana Ranaut), a young Haryanvi athlete who looks exactly like Tanu. He falls in love with her simplicity and honesty, and decides to marry her.
